Baraboo Bluff Winery’s 2019 Sangiovese Awarded Double Gold at the 20th Annual Finger Lakes International Wine Competition
Baraboo winemaker, Fred Quandt, has been entering wines in the Annual Finger Lakes International Wine Competition for the past few years, winning bronze, silver, and even gold medals in the past. This year Baraboo Bluff Winery achieved their ultimate goal of earning a coveted DOUBLE GOLD medal for Quandt’s 2019 vintage of Sangiovese. Quandt’s Sangiovese was aged on French oak and has peppery undertones. It is available for sale at Baraboo Bluff Winery. www.baraboobluffwinery.com
Started 20 years ago, the Finger Lakes International Wine & Spirits Competition has become one of the largest charitable wine and spirits competitions in the world to be run by a nonprofit organization. This year’s competition attracted over 2000 entries from 12 countries, 34 states, and 4 provinces. The entries were judged by a distinguished panel of judges composed of sommeliers, wine makers, and wine writers. All wines were presented blind to the panel of judges with only the varietal or blend identified. No indication of geography, vintage, or price point was shared, ensuring total unbiased evaluation given to each wine. The judges awarded bronze, silver and gold medals, and where it was unanimous, double gold.
Baraboo Bluff wines earning silver medals this year were Pinot Grigio (sold out), Itasca (sold out), and the ever popular The Girlfriend, available at the winery. Bronze medals were awarded to estate wines Petite Pearl and Cloud 9 Prairie Star. The Quandt family also owns a sister winery, Broken Bottle Winery, in Wisconsin Dells. Three of Quandt’s wines made for Broken Bottle Winery also earned bronze medals, Rowdy Red, Gravel Road, and Vino-Yay.
